Economic recovery tracked with new Web site

Information “Watch List” created by Penn State researchers

University Park, Pa. — How will Pennsylvanians fare under the federal stimulus package? Penn State researchers aim to track the state’s efforts at economic recovery with a new Web site that provides information and analysis about what funds are flowing to the Commonwealth, how the money will be used, and what effects spending will have on the Pennsylvania economy. Also on the site is a Watch List, a service in which the researchers have compiled relevant blogs and videos from the Web. To view, go to http://PSU-EconStimulus.notlong.com online.

The Tracking Pennsylvania’s Economic Recovery Web site is “a way to manage the information we get on the stimulus package and to share our curiosity about the stimulus effects on Pennsylvania,” said David Passmore, who launched the site with Rose Baker. Baker and Passmore are leaders of the Penn State Workforce Education & Development Initiative.

The site is a meant to be an independent supplement to information on the recovery coming from Pennsylvania’s government, said Passmore, who, with Baker, conducts various types of economic and workforce analyses that provide information on what impact, for example, a new factory or layoffs will have on Pennsylvania communities. The Workforce Education & Development Initiative is a partnership between Penn State’s College of Education and Penn State Outreach. The mission of the Initiative is to support the development of the workforce in Pennsylvania primarily through the application of Penn State resources to conduct various types of economic and workforce analyses for employers, industry partnerships, nonprofit organizations, and government entities.
