UHS nutrition clinic expands staff, offers free counseling

University Park, Pa. — University Health Services (UHS) is expanding nutrition clinic services with the addition of nutritionist JoAnn Whipple.

A certified diabetes educator, Whipple has served as a nutrition consultant for a variety of local, national and international corporations. She holds a B.S. in dietetics from Michigan State University and brings 17 years of experience as a registered dietitian to the nutrition clinic.

Melissa Martilotta, a registered dietician at Penn State for the last 18 years, will continue as the primary nutrition clinic dietician.

Nutrition counseling at University Health Services is free to currently enrolled Penn State students. Clinic staff can help students develop a diet plan to meet individual health needs, set realistic nutrition goals and strategize ways to meet those goals.

The food we choose to eat everyday affects our body and the way it functions. The UHS Nutrition Clinic helps students understand the importance of nutrition in their daily lives, maintain a balance diet, and improve their overall health.

Appointments can be scheduled online at http://www.sa.psu.edu/uhs/basics/online_access.cfm or by calling the UHS appointment line at (814) 863-0774.  Initial consultations last one hour. Follow-up appointments can be arranged as needed.
