WPSU program focuses on what we eat

A discussion about the decisions we all make regarding food choices

University Park, Pa. — The shiny metal cart with a wobbly wheel is probably filled with many of your favorite foods as you traverse through the aisles of any supermarket. The experience could be daunting – trying to decide what foods end up in your possession, then eventually in your body. And with obesity such a hot topic here in the United States, we are bombarded everyday with food choices, based on calories, portion size and cost. WPSU will host a public conversation focusing on the politics of the food system, as part of its Common Ground Lobby Talk series.

Join the conversation as an audience member and participate with questions and comments at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1 in the lobby of the Outreach Building at Penn State's Innovation Park.

WPSU host Patty Satalia will break down the food system with Marion Nestle, the Paulette Goddard Professor of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at New York University. Nestle has written several books on public health nutrition. Her research focuses on the scientific, social, cultural and economic factors that influence what we buy and what we eat.

To reach the Outreach Building in University Park, take Park Ave. going toward Beaver Stadium, drive past Mount Nittany Medical Center to the Innovation Park Exit A. Take that exit and then a right-turn at the stop sign. The Outreach Building is on the right-hand side of Innovation Blvd.

WPSU's Common Ground Lobby Talk series is made possible by The Public Service Media Initiative, a collaborative project of the Science, Technology and Society Program in the Colleges of the Liberal Arts and Engineering and WPSU TV-FM. This production is made possible by collaboration with the Rock Ethics Institute. Common Ground Lobby Talks are locally broadcast, available online at wpsu.org/lobbytalks and statewide through Penn State ON DEMAND.
