National accolades for WPSU's Blue Band documentary

University Park, Pa. -- Penn State Public Broadcasting's "Making the Blue Band" has received national recognition for exceptional video editing.

Executive producer Jeff Hughes and producer/editor Cole Cullen will receive a Bronze Telly Award.

“Making the Blue Band” is a one-hour documentary that debuted in November 2008 and has aired on public television stations throughout Pennsylvania. The behind-the-scenes show follows eight incoming freshmen through auditions, cuts and the grueling days of band camp as they pursue their goal of playing in the Penn State Blue Band.

Founded in 1978, the Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online film and video. Winners are selected by a team of judges who sort through more than 13,000 entries, received annually from all 50 states and countries around the world.

Both Hughes and Cullen are Penn State Blue Band alumni.
