Mackrides named ECAC Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

University Park, Pa. — Penn State Nittany Lion lacrosse player Matthew Mackrides (Newtown Square, Pa.) has been named ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week. It is the first honor for the true freshman from Newtown Square.

Mackrides scored the game-winning goal in Penn State's 12-11 ECAC overtime victory over St. John's on Saturday. Mackrides ended the game with five points off two goals and three assists in helping guide Penn State to its third straight win. Earlier in the week, Mackrides led Penn State with four points in a 9-8 road win at No. 19 Bucknell. Mackrides had two goals and two assists in the victory over the Bison. Mackrides totaled nine points off four goals and five assists in Penn State's 2-0 week.

The Nittany Lions have won three straight games and stand at 6-5 overall, 2-3 in the ECAC. Penn State will trek to Rutgers this Saturday for an 11:30 a.m. ECAC game in Piscataway, N.J.
