Bike ride to honor professor's memory

A bike ride to remember Bohdan Kulakowski, professor of mechanical engineering, will take place at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 4.

Riders will meet and depart from the corner of College Avenue and South Allen Street in State College with a police escort to a "ghost bike" memorial on Warner Boulevard in Boalsburg.

The event honors Kulakowski, who was killed on March 22, 2006, when he was struck by a van while riding his bike along the 1400 block of Boalsburg Road.

Riders are encouraged to bring flowers for the ghost bike memorial and lights for the ride home.

Participants are also invited for drinks and food at Duffy's Tavern in Boalsburg after the ride.

The event is being organized by the Centre Region Bicycle Coalition and is part of the group's Bike to Work Week activities.
