U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter visits Hershey

More than 300 faculty, staff and students turned out Monday morning (May 4) to hear Sen. Arlen Specter speak on the campus of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey. Specter, who was joined by U.S. Rep. Tim Holden (17th district-Pennsylvania), spoke briefly to the audience about various news topics of the day, including his decision last week to switch from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party. He answered questions from staff and students related to loan forgiveness for medical students, maintaining funding for biomedical research supported by the National Institutes of Health and health care reform.

CNN political correspondent Dana Bash covered the event and broadcast live from the Hershey campus throughout Monday afternoon and evening. PCN plans to rebroadcast coverage of the event statewide.
