Nursing professor co-authors textbook

Dee McGonigle, associate professor of nursing at Penn State New Kensington, recently co-authored a textbook, "Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge," which was published by Jones and Bartlett Publishers, and went into its second printing in January.

A member of the campus faculty since 1985, McGonigle has taught numerous nursing courses as well as information sciences and technology courses. In addition to her teaching and research duties, McGonigle is editor-in-chief of the "Online Journal of Nursing Informatics."

She received her baccalaureate degree in nursing from Penn State, a master's degree in nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate in foundations of education from the University of Pittsburgh.

In 2006, McGonigle was inducted as an academy fellow into the American Academy of Nursing for her outstanding achievements in the nursing profession at the organization's annual conference in Miami. As an academy fellow, McGonigle works with other health-care leaders to address current issues in the industry. The academy is comprised of more than 1,500 nursing leaders in education, management, practice and research.

McGonigle is currently working on another textbook, "Technological Innovations in Teaching and Learning," for Jones and Bartlett.
