Stephen Schappe named School of Business Administration director

Following a national search, Penn State Harrisburg has appointed Stephen P. Schappe director of its School of Business Administration.

An associate professor of management who has served as interim director of the school for the past three years, Schappe’s appointment was announced by Chancellor Madlyn L. Hanes.

Prior to his appointment as interim director, Schappe administered the undergraduate programs in the school, leading the successful reconfirmation of AACSB accreditation while participating on the University’s inter-college MBA program leadership team, and supporting the transition to the four-year baccalaureate degree offerings at the college.

Schappe, who joined the Penn State Harrisburg faculty in 1991, received his doctorate and master’s in labor and human resources from The Ohio State University. His academic and professional expertise is in human resource management, organizational behavior, and labor-management relations.

Called upon frequently by media for his expertise in business topics, Schappe has been consulted by organizations to identify strategic human resource needs, develop performance management systems, improve employee morale and motivation, and to assess the impact of corporate downsizing efforts.
