Nominations sought for NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative

University Park, Pa. -- The University Faculty Senate is accepting nominations for a Faculty Athletics Representative to the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). The successful nominee will be appointed to a renewable five-year term.

The Faculty Athletics Representative serves under the direction of the president and represents the faculty in all matters related to varsity athletics at University Park. The representative must be a tenured professor at University Park with a full-time faculty appointment. At the end of each five year term, the appointment will be reviewed by the president in consultation with the Senate Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics.

R. Scott Kretchmar, professor of Exercise and Sport Science, will step down as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative in summer 2010. Kretchmar has served in this role for two five-year terms.

A description of the duties and responsibilities of the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative may be found at Letters of nomination may be sent to Patty Poorman at in the Office of the University Faculty Senate, 101 Kern Graduate Building, University Park, Pa. Review of nominations will begin on September 1.
