'Expert Opinion: The Arms Race in College Sports' airs today

The first installment of "Expert Opinion with Graham Spanier," a new series on the Big Ten Network, debuts today (Thursday, July 9) with an examination of "The Arms Race in College Sports."

Penn State President Graham Spanier hosts Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany, Northwestern University President Henry Bienen and Chicago Tribune Editorial Board Member Avani Patel on the first show. They tackle the topic of "The Arms Race in College Sports," examining the pressure schools face to add state-of-the-art facilities, increase their athletic budgets and recruit premium coaches.

The second and third shows, which will cover "The Selling of College Sports" and "The College Student as Athlete," will air July 16 and July 23, respectively, and will also include perspectives of university presidents, athletic directors, athletic conference commissioners and prominent sports journalists. "Expert Opinion" is scheduled to air at 7 p.m. Eastern time on three consecutive Thursday nights in July on the Big Ten Network.
