Annual white coat ceremony planned for Aug. 7

Please join Penn State College of Medicine’s incoming medical class when they receive their first white coats at the annual white coat ceremony at 4 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Hershey Lodge. Faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend. Admission is free.

Following the distribution of white coats, the entering class will join with faculty to recite the Oath of Modern Hippocrates, the universally-recognized creed for physicians.

The College of Medicine initiated its annual white coat ceremony in 1996 with funding support from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, a public foundation fostering humanism in medicine. A white coat ceremony or similar rite of passage takes place at more than 90 percent of schools of medicine and osteopathy in the United States.
