Creative Writer's Speaker Series starts Sept. 24

Novelist M. Glenn Taylor will open the 2009-10 Creative Writer’s Speaker Series at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, with a reading on Thursday, Sept. 24.

A reception for Taylor will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the lobby outside of room 002 of the Research and Economic Development Center; the reading will take place at 6 p.m. inside. Both events are free and open to the public; parking will be available in the Junker Center lot.

M. Glenn Taylor’s first novel, "The Ballad of Trenchmouth Taggart," was a 2008 Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection and a finalist for the 2008 National Book Critics Circle Award. Originally published by West Virginia University Press, the novel has been reissued by HarperCollins’ Ecco imprint.

Taylor teaches English and fiction writing at Harper College in suburban Chicago.

Penn State Behrend’s annual Creative Writer’s Speaker Series is produced by the college’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences with support from the Clarence A. and Eugenie Baumann Smith Fund. Also appearing in the series will be Diana Hume George, Penn State Erie professor of English and women’s studies emerita on Thursday, Oct. 1, and poet David Baker on Thursday, Oct. 22.
