Worthington Scranton to provide training in high-demand occupation

In an effort to meet the workforce needs of the growing supply chain management industry in northeast Pa., Penn State Worthington Scranton’s Continuing Education department will offer a certificate in supply chain basics course starting in August.

Supply Chain Management (SCM) 301 will be held at the local campus from 6 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday starting Aug. 25 and running through Dec. 8. It is an introductory course that provides students with an overview of key logistics and supply chain management processes, concepts, and methodologies. Instruction is based on problem-based learning principles and methods with an emphasis on the framework for supply chain management.

Students will learn how to analyze logistics costs and service trade-offs among inventory, transportation and warehousing activities, while also gaining an understanding of the strategic role of information technology in supply chains, the use of third-party logistics and providers, and the methods of measuring the value of logistics performance.

The course will provide students with a foundation in supply chain logistics management that can lead to a promising career in one of the region's high-demand occupations.
