Singers wanted for Young Men's Chorus of YPC Erie

The Young People’s Chorus of Erie is looking for interested singers to fill its Young Men's Chorus, one of two new additions to the YPC Erie program.

The Young Men's Chorus is for those between the ages of 13 and 18 whose voices have changed. These singers learn advanced vocal techniques and perform repertoire appropriate for young mens' changed voices. Younger singers are welcome to audition for this chorus as long as their voices have changed.

"There is nothing like the camaraderie that young men experience singing together in an all-male chorus," said D. Jason Bishop, director of choral activities at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College and founder and artistic director of YPC Erie. "We've had a good start, but are interested in growing the Young Men's Chorus to balance our ensembles."

In addition to the Young Men's Chorus, YPC Erie has added a Concert Chorus for girls and boys with unchanged voices; all participants should be between 13 and 18 years of age. Members of the Young Men's and Concert choruses combine to form YPC Erie’s most advanced ensemble, Chorale.

The Elementary Chorus for children ages 7-9 and the Intermediate Chorus for children ages 10-12 complete YPC Erie’s five options.

Four auditions remain for all those interested in joining YPC Erie. Membership is open to singers ages 7-18 who demonstrate the ability to match pitch and have a genuine interest in singing.

Auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26 in Smith Chapel on the Penn State Erie Campus and at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27 at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant located at 250 W. 7th St. in Erie. Audition reservations can be made by calling YPC Erie at 814-898-6789.

YPC Erie is the first affiliate program of the famed Young People's Chorus of New York City. For more information about YPC Erie membership, call 814-898-6789 or visit the YPC Erie Web site, http://www.ypcerie.org.
