Inaugural lecture kicks off nuclear engineering's 50th anniversary

Aris Candris, president and CEO of Westinghouse, will present "Preparing for the Unprecedented Growth of Nuclear Power" at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, in the HUB-Robeson Auditorium.

The event is the inaugural talk of the Lawrence E. Hochreiter Distinguished Lecture Series in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. The lecture was created to commemorate the career of Lawrence Hochreiter, professor of nuclear engineering, who passed away in September 2008.

Candris's lecture also marks the kickoff of nuclear engineering's 50th anniversary at Penn State.

Several events commemorating the milestone will be held throughout the 2009-10 academic year, including the Nuclear Engineering Symposium on Oct. 15 and 16, the Penn State Nuclear Engineering Alumni and Friends Reception at the American Nuclear Society's Nov. 16 meeting, the second Hochreiter Lecture in January and the Nuclear Engineering Alumni and Friends Dinner on April 26, 2010.
