Engineering co-op, internship students of the year named

The Engineering Career Resources and Employer Relations office has recognized two Penn State engineering students with 2008-09 Student of the Year Awards for outstanding achievement in co-op and internship positions.

Christopher Gladd, a computer science senior, received the Dr. James Slick Cooperative Education Student of the Year Award. Gladd worked at IBM, developing Web-based prototypes to enhance user access to information and data.

Keegan McCoy, an electrical engineering senior, received the Anita M. Todd Internship Student of the Year Award. McCoy worked during the summer 2009 semester as a systems engineer at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., where he developed an optical test plan at the Integrated Science Instrument Module level for the James Webb Space Telescope's fine guidance sensor and tunable filter.

The Dr. James Slick Cooperative Education Student of the Year Award and the Anita M. Todd Internship Student of the Year Award each are bestowed annually to students who show high levels of personal motivation and talent in their short-term professional work assignments. Candidates are nominated by their co-op or internship supervisors. Award recipients are chosen by Penn State Engineering Alumni Society members and are each provided with a $1,000 scholarship.
