Computer center staff member organizes clothing drive

Penn State spirit has partnered with holiday spirit at the New Kensington campus. Jeff Overman, computer technology specialist at Penn State New Kensington, recently organized a winter clothing drive at the campus.

Sponsored by Westmoreland Casemanagement and Supports Inc., a community service organization, Overman served as the campus contact and collected winter outerwear from students, faculty and staff. The campus drive netted more than 200 scarves, hats, gloves, coats, sweaters and sweatshirts. Donations were forwarded to the United Presbyterian Church in the downtown New Kensington for distribution to the community.

"The drive was set-up to bring the community together to help those in need," said Overman, a former member of the campus golf team. "It was a huge success as families and individuals were able to get winter clothing at no cost."

After earning his bachelor's degree in information sciences and technology at Penn State New Kensington in 2005, he joined the campus staff three years later. He is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware and software. In addition, to information technology support, Overman coordinates media equipment and supplies.

A newlywed, Overman married Penn State alumna Jamie Lach Overman on Nov. 21. Jamie Overman received her bachelor's degree in applied psychology at the New Kensington campus in 2006. She is the case management supervisor at WCSI and worked with her husband on the holiday project.

According to its Web site, the non-profit WCSI was founded in 1994 to provide "conflict free" case management and supports coordination services to individuals and families in need of mental health and early intervention services. WCSI assesses the need for services and then assists the individual in accessing and participating in an array of services and community resources. With offices in Greensburg, Latrobe, Monessen and New Kensington, WCSI serves more than 7,500 children, adolescents and adults of all ages in Westmoreland and surrounding counties.
