Penn State seeks vice president for Commonwealth Campuses

Penn State is seeking applications and nominations for the position of vice president for Commonwealth Campuses. The vice president reports directly to the executive vice president and provost and is the University’s senior officer responsible for oversight of Penn State’s 19 undergraduate campuses. In addition, the vice president for Commonwealth Campuses serves as dean of the University College; as dean, this position provides academic leadership on curricular matters and promotion and tenure reviews for the 14 campuses not currently having college status. The vice president also is a member of the Academic Leadership Council and the University Park Council of Academic Deans, and chairs the Council of Campus Chancellors.

The vice president is responsible for the quality of academic programs in teaching, research and service; strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising, alumni relations and outreach; and management of the Commonwealth campuses’ facilities. This position requires an individual who can effectively lead and manage a large and complex organization that is geographically distributed.

Candidates for this position should be tenured Penn State faculty members or administrators, preferably at the rank of professor, who display an understanding of and appreciation for the Commonwealth Campus structure; proven leadership abilities; understanding and support for the University’s multiple missions across the Commonwealth; commitment to diversity; evidence of experience in fiscal management and the ability to attract human and financial resources to the University.

Full consideration will be given to candidates who come to the committee’s attention by Feb. 8. Nominations, letters of application accompanied by a curriculum vita, and the names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of four references may be mailed to John D. Burke, Chair; Search Committee for Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses; 201 Old Main; University Park, PA 16802, or e-mailed to PSUSearch@psu.edu.
