The Penn State Berks student group “We Are ... Helping Haiti @ Berks,” in conjunction with the college's Intercultural Communication: Theory & Research class, will hold its second fundraising event at Issac’s Restaurant and Deli at the Village Square Shopping Center at 94 Commerce Drive in Wyomissing, Pa., from 5 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 18. Issac’s has agreed to donate 25 percent of their earnings, but only for those who present the flier, which is available on the campus’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pennstateberks online.
Another fundraiser will be held at Moe’s Southwest Grill of Wyomissing from 5 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 25. Moe’s has agreed to donate 10 percent of their earnings, but only for those who mention the student group. This fundraiser was originally scheduled for Feb. 11, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
The class, which is part of the Communication Arts and Sciences' baccalaureate degree program, organized its first fundraiser at On the Border restaurant on Feb. 2.
In addition, the student group is planning several other fundraising activities, including selling Help Haiti apparel and holding events such as a Haiti Awareness Week, and a faculty vs. student sports challenge.
The students are working to determine the most effective charities to support. We Are.. Helping Haiti @ Berks will choose the charity that sends the highest percentage of each dollar directly to Haiti and does not have a specific connection to any religious group or political affiliation.
