Harrisburg to host meeting for employees on outcome assessment

Penn State administrators, faculty, and staff involved in outcomes assessment, accreditation, or strategic planning within their units and on their campuses are invited to a free conference on Thursday, April 22 at Penn State Harrisburg.

"Learning Outcomes Assessment: Building a Culture for Institutional Effectiveness" will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. in the Student Center of Penn State Harrisburg’s Capital Union Building.

This regional assessment event is modeled after previous events hosted or co-hosted by the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence. In addition to hearing about planning and assessment from the chair of the Middle State’s Commission on Higher Education -- Michael Middaugh -- participants will have the chance to join informal roundtables on specific assessment topics, hear success stories from other faculty and administrators, and network with colleagues from other Penn State campuses.

The keynote speakers are:

Mary Lou D’Allegro, senior director for planning, research, and assessment at Penn State Berks, “Building a Climate of Assessment.”

Michael Middaugh, associate provost for institutional effectiveness at the University of Delaware, “Planning and Assessment in Higher Education: Demonstrating Institutional Effectiveness.”

Several roundtable sessions on assessment topics will be facilitated by faculty from various Penn State locations, including Matthew Wilson, Penn State Harrisburg faculty senate president. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

The conference is funded by the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence.

The full program agenda and online registration are available on the Schreyer Institute’s Web site at http://assess.psu.edu/Events/. Contact Deidre Yingling, special events coordinator, at day12@psu.edu or 814-865-0282 with any questions.
