Week of events to mark Earth Day 2010 at Penn State

University Park, Pa. — Several Penn State organizations will join together for a week of events to mark Earth Day 2010.

On Earth Day (April 22), a ribbon cutting will be held at the location of the 2010 senior class gift -- the Marsh Meadow Boardwalk and Overlook at the Arboretum. Visitors may take self or guided tours of the Arboretum, and the event will feature free food and entertainment from 3-6 p.m.

Live acoustic music will highlight a sustainability exhibit from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the first floor of the HUB-Robeson Center, where visitors can learn about reducing their footprints and recycling materials in fun ways. Visitors are also encouraged to bring an old T-shirt to make a tote and wear green to win a prize. The event also will feature games, giveaways, crafts, activities and more.

Earth Day wraps up with a screening of the animated film "WALL-E" at 10 p.m. in HUB Auditorium.

On Friday (April 23), students will "Celebrate State" with a festival at 1 p.m. and concert featuring the Flobots at 7 p.m., on the HUB Lawn.

See below for a full schedule of the week's events, which are free and open to the public. Eco-Action will collect used sneakers to be recycled at all events. For more information, visit green.psu.edu.
