Scott appointed to retina specialists board of directors

Ingrid U. Scott, professor of ophthalmology and public health sciences, and director of the Ophthalmology Residency Program, was appointed to the Board of Directors for the American Society of Retina Specialists.

Scott earned her medical degree, master's in public health degree, and master's in preventative ophthalmology degrees from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, and completed her ophthalmology residency, chief residency, and fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and diseases at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Fla.

Active in several professional societies, Scott serves as vice chair of the Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network funded by the National Eye Institute (NEI), co-chair of the NEI-funded SCORE Study (national multicenter clinical trials investigating treatments for retinal vein occlusion), and executive committee member of the NEI-funded AREDS2 study, which investigates treatments for age-related macular degeneration.

Scott serves as chair of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Ophthalmic Technology Assessment Committee Retina Panel, is a member of the AAO Preferred Practice Patterns Committee, and has served on the AAO Basic and Clinical Science Course Committee. She has been awarded a variety awards for her achievements, serves as an editorial board member of several ophthalmology journals, and has authored or co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications.
