Thompson visits THON offices to honor success of annual fundraiser

University Park, Pa. – In March, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution congratulating Penn State’s IFC/Panhellenic Council Dance Marathon (THON) for its continued efforts raising funds in support of the fight against pediatric cancer. Rep. Glenn Thompson (PA-05) will be on campus at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow morning (April 30) in 210 HUB-Robeson Center, to present copies of the resolution, House  Resolution 1112, to THON’s student leadership.

Rep. Thompson introduced the resolution in recognition of THON. It is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world and has the largest single contributor to the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. THON has raised nearly $68.9 million for the organization, since 1973, when the event first took place.  Thompson’s resolution highlighted the fact that THON has provided more than 2,200 Four Diamond families, contributions towards a new Pediatric Cancer Pavilion at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
