Bertin named IST statewide faculty member of the year

Lisa Bertin, instructor in Information sciences and technology at Penn State Shenango, was named the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) Statewide Faculty Member of the Year for 2009-10.

The award is given to a faculty member who has consistently supported IST programs at his or her campus, has been a champion for the College, and has made a difference at his or her campus and in the community. The award was presented at the College’s Statewide Faculty Retreat, held May 10 and 11, at the Nittany Lion Inn on Penn State's University Park campus.

In 2007, Bertin initiated a partnership with the Beaver campus which allowed students in the Information Sciences and Technology associate degree program at Shenango campus to pursue a bachelor’s degree via distance technology. Each spring, she coordinates a Technology and Career Expo that brings together technology vendors from Penn State and the local community.

Bertin is the campus IST Champion, an IST student adviser and is a member of the Student Activity Fee, Computer Fee, and Academic Orientation Planning committees for the Shenango campus. She is the creator of the technology orientation module for first-year students.

Outside the campus, Bertin serves as the Shenango representative and secretary of the University College Council, is on the board of directors for the Technology Council of Northwest Pennsylvania, is a member of the Association of Information and Technology Professionals and volunteers for several local non-profit organizations including the United Way of Mercer County, ATHENA Power Link and Relay for Life.
