Bargain-hunters flock to 2010 Trash to Treasure sale

University Park, Pa. -- Hundreds of bargain-hunting shoppers lined up starting at midnight to gain early entry into the annual Trash to Treasure sale, held Saturday, June 5, at Beaver Stadium on Penn State's University Park campus. This year's event raised about $56,600 for the Centre County United Way, and kept about 66 tons of clothing, furniture, electronics, rugs and more out of landfills.

Trash to Treasure is Penn State’s biggest town-gown recycling effort. To date, the program has raised more than $370,000 for the Centre County United Way and saved nearly 530 tons of goods from being shipped to a landfill.
