College, Susquehanna Health extend clinical affiliation agreement

Pennsylvania College of Technology and Susquehanna Health recently entered a three-year clinical affiliation agreement.

The agreement provides for use of the health system’s radiology departments for clinical instruction for students enrolled in the college’s associate-degree radiography major.

As part of the agreement, Susquehanna Health provides $22,000 for the 2010-11 academic year (and $22,000 for 2011-12 and $23,000 for 2012-13, totaling $67,000 over the three-year agreement), to support clinical supervision of approximately 20 radiography students who complete their 24-month clinical experience rotations at the three Susquehanna Health hospitals: Divine Providence Hospital, Muncy Valley Hospital and The Williamsport Hospital.

The grant is used to augment the salary of Penn College’s clinical director of radiography, who provides 12-month, full-time radiography student supervision in the Susquehanna Health hospitals.

The initial clinical affiliation agreement between Susquehanna Health and Penn College was established in 1990 through the efforts of Robert J. Slothus, associate professor and director of radiography at the college. A similar agreement was developed in 1995 with Mount Nittany Medical Center. Since their inception, funds received from both institutions total $703,500.
