Healthy activities calendar available to students online

A new calendar created by HealthWorks students highlights healthy activities and resources available to Penn State students. The monthly calendar is available for download on the Healthy Penn State website at http://healthypennstate.psu.edu/ online. A limited number of print calendars also are available in 201 Student Health Center.

Students can use the calendar to record their daily physical activity and track their progress throughout the school year. Each month features local and online resources that Penn State students can use to get -- and stay -- healthy.

"We wanted to provide students with an educational resource as well as a hands-on tool -- something to showcase the variety of health-related resources available at Penn State and the surrounding area," said HealthWorks student Amy Tomasko.

"It can be hard for students to reach national nutrition and physical activity recommendations. This new calendar provides students with ideas they might not think of such as walking through the arboretum," said Katherine Wheatle, community health educator and HealthWorks adviser.

HealthWorks is a peer education outreach program within University Health Services (UHS). HealthWorks students educate fellow students about a variety of wellness topics. The Healthy Penn State website provides resources focused on nutrition, sleep, physical activity and stress relief. A healthy recipe cookbook and Walk for Health map created by HealthWorks students are also available for download on the site along with informative quizzes and links to local and online resources.
