Nuclear Regulatory Commission leader headlines Hochreiter Lecture

George Apostolakis, commissioner of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), will present "Managing Uncertainties in the Regulation of Nuclear Facilities" at 4 p.m. Sept. 23 in 135 Reber Building on Penn State's University Park campus. His talk, part of the Hochreiter Distinguished Lecture Series in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, is free and open to the public.

A member of the National Academy of Engineering, Apostolakis was appointed NRC commissioner in April. He has served on the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the National Technical University in Athens, Greece, and holds a master's in engineering science from the California Institute of Technology and a doctorate in engineering science and applied mathematics from the California Institute of Technology.
