Celebrate Hispanic Heritage month at Penn State

University Park, Pa. – During Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15), America celebrates the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

At Penn State, students will observe the month with a myriad of festivities:

6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21 in 119 Osmand Lab, Rafael R. Diaz Torrez, a doctoral student in the College of Communications will show a documentary and discuss, “The politics of crossover: Latino popular music in the United States.”

2 – 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25 in Schlow Centre Region Library, “Children’s Day,” a day or arts, crafts, games music and food, free for everyone.

8 – 10 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25 in Heritage Hall of the HUB-Robeson Center, “Una Noche en Mexico,” featuring Los Quetzales Dance Ensemble.

7 p.m. – midnight, Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Days Inn in State College on Pugh St., “Cultural night,” dinner and dancing, with a keynote address by Michelle Habell-Pallen, author of “Loca Motion: The Travels of Chicana and Latina Popular Culture.” For tickets and more information visit www.equity.psu.edu/hhm.

7 – 8:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 15, 105 Forum Building, “Yo Soy Latina!” an Off-Broadway Play.
