Penn State College of Medicine convocation set for Oct. 1

Penn State College of Medicine will mark the start of the new school year with its Convocation and Awards Ceremony at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, in the Junker Auditorium. Convocation offers an annual opportunity to recognize outstanding medical and graduate students. Their accomplishments consist of scholarly excellence, research achievement and participation in humanistic and community activities.

This year’s speaker will be Robert V. Rege. Rege is the Hall and Mary Lucile Shannon distinguished chair in surgery and professor and chairman in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Following completion of his medical degree and internship in general surgery at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center in 1975, Rege was a general medical officer in the United States Navy for two years. After finishing his general surgery residency in 1982 at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, he became an instructor at Penn State College of Medicine.

All Medical Center and College of Medicine faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend the ceremony.
