Luncheons will feature Beaver IST alumni

Kay Wijekumar, associate professor of information sciences and technology (IST) at Penn State Beaver, has established a luncheon series on campus that will feature some of Beaver's IST alumni. The luncheon will be held the first Wednesday of each month for Beaver IST students in the IST lab, Michael Baker Building..

October’s presentation featured Amber McConahy ’09 IST who is currently enrolled in a master’s degree at Carnegie Mellon University and working as an assistant for several professors there. McConahy discussed the importance of programming skills and dedication to the field as well as the competitive nature of the information technology marketplace.

Wijekumar emphasized the importance of the luncheons in showcasing the variety of jobs in which Beaver’s IST graduates are employed. Her hope is that current and prospective IST students will learn more about the opportunities open to IST graduates.

November’s luncheon will feature Brad Shaffer, 2005 IST graduate and systems manager for Eckles Architecture and Engineering.
