Transitioning to health care independence

High school seniors and parents are invited to a three-hour symposium from 1 to 4 p.m. March 13, Lecture Room A, at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. This symposium is designed to help seniors and parents learn more about health care needs and challenges after graduation, including finding new physicians as students graduate from high school and move on to college or go into the work force.

Parents will be provided with tools to assist their young adults in this process.

Topics to be covered include exercise, personal decisions, nutrition, sleep deprivation, obtaining health insurance, worker’s compensation and helping adolescents become independent.

Speakers include two pediatricians, a nurse educator and a social worker. Refreshments will be provided. Registration is required, so call Penn State Hershey Medical Center’s 24-hour CareLine at 1-800-243-1455.

This program is sponsored by Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
