University mourns death of Trustee Emeritus Schaffer

Penn State officials on Saturday reported the death of Trustee Emeritus Stanley G. Schaffer on Friday, Jan. 28. Schaffer served as a member of Penn State's Board of Trustees from 1976 until 1992. He was president of Duquesne Light from 1968 until his retirement in 1983.

Schaffer received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State in 1941. He served as chairman of the board's Committee on Physical Plant from 1979 through 1986.

Named a Distinguished Alumnus in 1972 and an Alumni Fellow in 1986, Schaffer served on the Alumni Council for 12 years. He also was elected to honorary fraternities Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Tau and Pi Tau Sigma.
