Penn State launches Safe Resource Contact Network

Members of the University community who are experiencing domestic violence are encouraged to contact faculty and staff who are part of the Penn State Safe Resource Contact (SRC) Network. The network, developed in collaboration by the Centre County Women's Resource Center, the Penn State Office of Human Resources and the Penn State Human Resource Development Center (HRDC), is designed to connect employees or students who are victims of domestic violence to resources and services both on campus and in the community.

Domestic violence doesn’t stay at home when victims and abusers go to work; it can affect productivity, increase absenteeism and raise the risk of violence in the workplace. Across the University, 79 faculty and staff members have completed training necessary to volunteer to be Safe Resource Contacts. SRCs will display a purple ribbon symbol at their workspace, identifying them as someone who is trained to provide support, information and a safe contact for those experiencing domestic violence. Contact information for SRCs also can be found at http://ohr.psu.edu/ online.

SRCs are available at Penn State's University Park, Brandywine, Erie and Harrisburg campuses. For more information, contact Kerrie Ferchalk, human resource development specialist in the University's Human Resource Development Center, at 814-863-8078 or kjf17@psu.edu, or Jody Althouse, director of outreach and communications at the Centre County Women's Resource Center, at 814-238-7066 or jalthouse@ccwrc.org.
