Chancellor's Cup highlights annual bowl-a-thon tournament

The Chancellor's Cup, emblematic of bowling supremacy at Penn State New Kensington, is up for grabs once again as campus students, faculty and staff test their mettle in the annual event to determine the best bowlers on campus.

Team scores are determined by the best four scores for each game of the three-game set. The names of the members of the winning team are inscribed on the cup that is displayed in the trophy case in the lobby of the Conference Center.

The intramural tournament is held in conjunction with the Alle-Kiski Society's ninth annual Alumni Bowl-a-thon from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at the Wildlife Lanes in Lower Burrell. Lane sponsorships, the backbone of the fundraising effort, are available for $100 and $50. All proceeds benefit the campus' athletics facilities. The cup currently resides with the Old Timers, a staff team of Chet Howell, Ron "Bubba" Hileman, "Dollar" Bill Garnett, Tim "Tito" Perroz and Carol Perroz. The quintet has a firm grip on the cup, winning it four of the past five years.

Only the Mean Four prevented an unprecedented accomplishment of five consecutive crowns. In 2008, Sandie Williams, Pauletta Brown, Nancy Burns, Candee Christy and Angie Fisher sandwiched a championship in between the Old Timers two back-to-back title runs (2006-07 and 2009-10). The all-woman staff team, who also captured the flag in 2004, has been runner-up to each of the Old Timers has five titles.
