First class completes Travel Professional Certificate Program

Penn State Travel Services worked with the University's Human Resource Development Center recently to offer the Travel Professional Certificate Program. Those who completed the six-month program were given a travel certificate on Feb. 3 in the Founder's Lounge at the Bryce Jordan Center on Penn State's University Park campus.

The certificate program covers a wide variety of travel topics over six sessions. Some of the discussion topics include transient hotels, airlines and car rental. It also features behind-the-scenes tours of the University Park Airport and Penn State Hospitality Services.

The course is designed for staff assistants who frequently organize trips, but is open to all University employees. Each session involved a variety of topics and included several speakers, including Risk Manager Gary Langsdale and officials from the Transportation Security Administration.

"We are providing critical information," Travel Services Manager Marguerite Gustkey said. "We cover every aspect of the process, and since the topic changes so dramatically and often, it never goes stale."

Gustkey said that Travel Services is planning to offer the program again due to high demand and the great feedback from the inaugural offering. For more information about upcoming course offerings, contact the Travel Services Office.

The Travel onLion booking program offers customers a handy way to book and organize trips. The online program was released in early 2009. Travel onLion makes booking trips faster, cheaper, more helpful, and more convenient. Training for Travel onLion is available upon request through Travel Services.
