University Park, Pa. — Penn State Nittany Lion men's lacrosse player Shane Sturgis (Downingtown, Pa.) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 13. The award is the third this year for a Penn State freshman.

Sturgis led Penn State to an 11-6 win over No. 19 Rutgers on Saturday at Penn State's Bigler Field. Sturgis scored four goals and had an assist to spark the Nittany Lions to the win over the ranked Scarlet Knights, handing Rutgers its first loss of the year. Sturgis now leads Penn State with 14 points off eight goals and six assists. Teammate Austin Kaut (Morton, Pa.) has won the Rookie of the Week honor twice as well.

Penn State is now 2-3 on the year while Rutgers falls to 4-1. The Nittany Lions will return to action in Amherst, Mass., when they open up CAA play at UMass on Saturday, March 19, at 12 p.m.
