Faculty Speakers Series continues on March 30

The Penn State Beaver Faculty Speakers Series will continue at noon Wednesday, March 30 with a presentation by Mari B. Pierce, assistant professor of criminal justice. The free program, “A Review of Women in Violent Roles,” will be held in room 16, Student Union Building, and the public is invited to attend.
Pierce began teaching in the fall semester for the new bachelor’s degree in administration of justice at Beaver.

Before coming to Penn State, Pierce was an assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Western Oregon University. She also served as the instructor of record for the Department of Criminology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Department of Criminal Justice at New Mexico State University.

In addition, Pierce has worked as a social service specialist in child welfare for the Department of Human Services, Salem, Ore.; a youth care counselor for the Families and Youth, Inc. Girls’ Group Home in Las Cruces, N.M.; and an evaluation program coordinator and guidance counselor for Homestead Youth and Family Services in Pendleton, Ore.

She holds a doctorate in criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in criminal justice from New Mexico State University, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Whitman College. Pierce can be contacted at mbp16@psu.edu or 724-773-3549.
