Babcock, Wisniewski honored with 2011 McCoy Award

University Park, Pa. – Cross country and track athlete Jessica Babcock and Nittany Lion offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski have been selected as the 2011 recipients of the Ernest B. McCoy Memorial Award.

The McCoy Award is presented annually to one senior male and one senior female student-athlete who have combined successful athletic participation with academic excellence. It is named for the longtime dean of Penn State's former College of Physical Education, who also served as the University's athletic director.

During her cross country career, Babcock was a member of the Lion top seven throughout the 2006 season, finishing fourth on the team at the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. On the track, both indoor and outdoor, she has competed in the 1500 meters, mile run, 3000 meters and 5000 meters, running a career best in the 5000 at the 2009 Penn Relays and finishing fourth in the mile at the Jesse Owens Classic. She is an elementary education major from Irvine, Calif.

Among Penn State's most accomplished and community-service oriented student-athletes, Wisniewski has garnered All Big-Ten and All-American honors at the guard and center positions. He has made mission trips to the Dominican Republic during spring break and was selected a 2009 first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. A secondary education major in the Schreyer Honors College, Wisniewski is from Pittsburgh, Pa.
