Architectural engineering seminar series to feature two talks

The ongoing Architectural Engineering Seminar Series will feature two talks this week.

Jennifer Whyte, director of the University of Reading's Design Innovation Research Center in the United Kingdom, will present "Design Innovation: Revisiting Design in the Digital Economy" at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in 107 Engineering Unit B on Penn State's University Park campus.

Her discussion will focus on addressing the new connections between design, manufacture and use that are made possible by digital systems through project work on value to clients through data handover, building safely by design, management practices in project-based design environments and on the changing nature of the professional roles.

Steven Treado, associate professor of architectural engineering, will present "Why is There an X in Exergy?" at noon on Friday, April 15, in 107 Engineering Unit B on Penn State's University Park campus.

Treado will discuss the concept of exergy efficiency, how it has been proposed to more accurately represent the impact of building energy systems on resources and the environment, what exergy analysis can tell people that energy analysis does not and how it can be used to design better buildings.

Both lectures are free and open to the public.
