UHS director elected treasurer of national ambulatory care association

Margaret Spear, director of University Health Services and an adjunct professor at Penn State, was recently elected as board treasurer of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. AAAHC is an accreditation leader with nearly 5,000 organizations accredited nationwide, including ambulatory surgery centers, college student health centers, military health care clinics and more.

Spear has worked in a college health setting for more than 28 years and has been at Penn State since 1990. Prior to working in college health, she worked as a physician at various settings, including a hospital and a medical group practice. Spear received her medical degree from Mount Sinai Medical School in 1977 and has taken graduate course work at the Department of Health Policy and Administration at Penn State. She currently serves as Chair of the AAAHC Accreditation Committee and has been a surveyor for the AAAHC since 1994. She represents the American College Health Association.
