Campus Sustainability Office seeks applicants for Eco-Rep positions

University Park, Pa. -- The Campus Sustainability Office currently is recruiting incoming, first-year students for positions as Eco-Reps for the 2011-12 school year. Eco-Reps are sustainability educators within residence halls, and should have a passion for leading others to follow sustainable behavior by setting examples and empowering students. Eco-Reps must live within East Halls. To apply to become an Eco-Rep, send a cover letter, resume and two references to Milea Perry, at map40@psu.edu. To be considered for early acceptance, applications must be in by May 23. All application materials must be submitted by June 6.

Last year, 28 first-year students participated in the program. Accomplishments of last years' Eco-Reps include:

-- Establishment of close connections with others who have an interest in sustainability;

-- Interactions with top leaders at Penn State and in the community who are working to make sustainability a part of the University's culture;

-- The planning and execution of entertaining events for East Hall Residents that contributed to the development of participants' leadership skills, knowledge of sustainability and lifestyle changes, and the education of fellow first-year students on sustainable actions; and

-- The successful promotion of the campus-wide Recycling Challenge within East Halls, and a resulting victory in that challenge for East Halls.
