Penn State York staffers win awards

Members of the Penn State York staff were honored during the Student Affairs Staff Development Program on May 18 at University Park.

Cynthia Jones, administrative support assistant in student affairs, York, Pa.; Jason Kilmer, associate director of student affairs, York, Pa.; and Patrick Tanner, director of student and enrollment services; York, Pa.; earned recognition for their work on programming for Black History Month at the campus.

“This award is especially meaningful because it highlights Penn State York’s commitment to Black history, and it is also a nod to the spectrum of diversity education that is so relevant for all members of our community,” said Tanner.  “Additionally, I am pleased that the hard work of our students, staff, and faculty has been recognized on a University-wide level.”

Eleven programs were nominated from across the state and the York program was named Program of the Year. Staff members were recognized for coordination of an outstanding campus program and received a certificate of achievement and $50 to be used toward personal growth and professional development.

In addition to the program award, Sharon Christ, director of enrollment management and strategic recruitment and retention initiatives, York, Pa.; received the service to campuses award. This award recognizes the achievements of a staff member assigned to University Park who has supported the students, staff, and the campuses. The Link U.P. Planning Committee, of which Christ is a member, earned the award. Each year, University Park welcomes a large number of upper-class students who are new to campus. These students are either change-of-campus students from other Penn State campuses or transfer students from other colleges/universities and the Link U.P. offers these students the opportunity and resources to allow for a smooth transition to University Park.
