Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni to host fundraising tournament

On Friday, July 15, the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni Constituent Society will host its 16th annual Penn State Masters Golf Tournament at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club in Mountain Top, Pa. The tournament raises money to support the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni Society’s Scholarship Fund, the Student Mentor Program, Academic Excellence Awards, and other initiatives that help students at Wilkes-Barre campus. Last year’s tournament hosted more than 130 golfers and the tees and greens were sponsored by various community businesses and friends of the campus, raising more than $6,000 for student programs at the campus.

The day’s festivities get under way at 11:30 a.m. with registration and lunch, and the tournament begins at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. An awards banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m., and tournament and prize winners will be announced.

This year’s winning flight in the Captain and Crew-style tournament will receive Penn State Wilkes-Barre masters navy blazers, complete with 24-karat gold-plated Penn State buttons. Golfers also have a chance to win several hole-in-one prizes while on the course, including a car donated by Ken Pollock Auto Group, a San Antonio Golf Vacation, $500 for Zero Restriction Apparel and a Sea Mist vacation. Other contests during the day include closest-to-the-pin, longest drive for men and women, and double-your-money by holding the green. The tournament also will include a prize raffle featuring various gifts and certificates donated by local businesses as well as a 50/50 drawing.
