Grunstra receives funding for proposal from Schreyer Institute

Matthew Grunstra, assistant professor of earth and mineral sciences at Penn State Beaver, has been awarded $1,750 by the Penn State Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence. The funds will be used by Grunstra in support of his proposal, “Increasing Participation in Larger Classrooms through Creative Use of Technology.”

"The proposal presents a compelling strategy for improving students’ educational experiences and learning,” said Angela R. Linse, executive director and associate dean of the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence, when the award was announced. “Implementation in a general education class will be helpful in setting expectations about their engagement early in their academic careers.”

The Schreyer Institute will work in conjunction with Grunstra to implement evaluation plans and encouraged him to share his work with colleagues.

Grunstra joined Penn State in 2009. He holds a doctorate in environmental science and engineering and a master’s degree in environmental science from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Grove City College.
