Simulation Center achieves accreditation

Penn State Hershey Clinical Simulation Center has received accreditation by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) in the areas of Assessment, Teaching/Education and System Integration.

The institution-wide focus of SSH makes it unique among simulation accreditation agencies. As a result, its review focused on how broadly the Penn State Hershey programs and faculty have integrated quality simulation education within various departments and across disciplines and professions.

The SSH accreditation is the latest in a list of national recognitions for the Simulation Center. In 2007, the Center was accredited by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as a Level I Comprehensive Institute. And in 2008, the Center became an approved program of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Simulation Education Network, which allows the Center to provide the simulation-based component of the Maintenance of Certification requirements for anesthesiologists.

“Simulation is a powerful tool for improving patient safety. Achieving recognition from these national organizations acknowledges our leadership position, and affirms we have the simulation faculty, programs and management to do the job,” said Elizabeth Sinz, associate dean for clinical simulation.
