Libraries to hold annual open house Sept. 7 and 8

Penn State University Libraries will host an interactive open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 7 and 8, in Pattee, Paterno and all branch libraries at University Park. Grand prizes for undergraduate students include: two iPad 2s, two textbook scholarships for spring semester 2012 and a football signed by Joe Paterno. Prizes for graduate students include a copy of EndNote4 and a nook e-reader with Barnes and Noble gift card for e-book purchase.

Penn State memorabilia and school spirit will fill the Libraries, during the two days of fun and educational activities that will acquaint students with Libraries services and collections. The first 250 students to visit all 14 library stops, which includes the branch libraries, will receive a Joe Knows T-shirt. All student participants who complete the event's minimum of eight library stops will receive a stainless-steel water bottle imprinted with LionSearch, the Libraries' new service that mimics open-Web search methods.

One of the largest and most successful library orientation programs of its kind nationwide, the Penn State Libraries’ Open House has been running since 2001 and attracts more than 3,500 students each fall. Student feedback from the event is highly positive, with more than 90 percent of students indicating that they would recommend the open house as a useful activity for other students to attend.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, see http://www.libraries.psu.edu/openhouse or follow psulibs on Twitter or “like” Penn State University Libraries@University Park on Facebook for real-time updates leading up to and during the event.
