In a ceremony held July 26, the Erie County Historical Society awarded Penn State Behrend Archives the Local History Award. The archives in The John M. Lilley Library, Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, began in 2006 as an effort to collect historical materials that had been accumulating around the campus for more than 60 years.
A generous gift from Mary and Ernst Behrend's grandsons Richard and William Sayre, partially funded the archives and allowed the John M. Lilley Library to dedicate a room for an official archives. It supports a three-fold mission to preserve the histories of Hammermill Paper Company, the Behrend family, and the Behrend College.
