Penn State People: Heather Luse lets them eat cake

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Heather Luse, co-manager and executive pastry chef at the Penn State Bakery on the University Park campus, has been preparing breads, cakes and cookies for Penn Staters for 18 years. She coordinates recipe development, production and menu planning that keeps the pastry shelves full. Luse is one of the thousands of everyday workers on campus -- the ones who keep the University running behind the scenes in a variety of interesting and essential ways.

Visit http://live.psu.edu/flickrset/72157627552377855 to view photos of Luse as she starts her work day early and pitches in to get orders prepared, baked and delivered to University community. Luse said she enjoys baking and preparing food, but the best part of her job is that it is ever-changing and presents new demands week to week. She also values her co-workers and the upbeat atmosphere they generate at the bakery.

The Penn State Bakery is part of the University's Housing, Food Services and Residence Life department. It provides a wide variety of goods to all Penn State residence halls, the HUB food service areas, the Creamery, the Penn State day care centers and both University hotels. The facility averages 89,000 loaves of bread, more than 1.4 million cookies, 177,000 donuts and 13,000 cakes annually. For more information about the Bakery, visit http://www.bakery.psu.edu/ online.
